DOUBLE DEEP PALLET RACKING
Stores pallets two deep instead of one.
Double Deep racking is a variant of selective pallet racking, where two rows of pallets are stored back-to-back. It requires a specialist forklift with extended reach or pantograph functionality to access the rear pallet in each lane. This system operates on a First In, Last Out (FILO) basis and is most suited to operations with multiple pallets of the same product.
-
Increased storage density compared to standard pallet racking
-
Ideal for storing multiple pallets of the same SKU
-
Reduces aisle space by storing pallets two deep
-
Compatible with reach trucks or specialised forklifts
-
Cost-effective alternative to drive-in or automated systems
-
Flexible design, easily adapted to existing warehouse layouts
-
Enhances space efficiency without a major increase in handling complexity
-
Boosts capacity in medium- to high-turnover environments
-
Maintains selectivity, though reduced compared to single-deep racking
-
Perfect for bulk storage and batch picking
-
Common in FMCG, food, beverage, and general warehousing
-
Quick to install and configure with minimal structural changes
-
You store multiple pallets of the same product
– Ideal when each SKU has two or more pallets, as rear pallets can only be accessed after front ones are removed. -
You need to increase storage capacity without expanding the building
– Great for making better use of available floor space by reducing aisle count. -
You have moderate stock rotation (FILO acceptable)
– Works well in operations where First In, Last Out is acceptable and products don’t require strict date control. -
You use reach trucks or pantograph forklifts
– Requires equipment that can access the second pallet in each lane. -
You operate in cold or chill storage
– Perfect for environments where space is expensive and reducing aisles can cut energy costs. -
You want a cost-effective alternative to drive-in racking
– Offers high density with less complexity and greater selectivity than drive-in systems. -
You manage bulk dispatch or batch picking
– Suits workflows where pallets are retrieved in large groups rather than picked individually.
